Theatre

Yes I spelled it “Theatre”. I like that spelling better. It comes from the UK. I don’t know why but I just like UK spellings and slang.

Recently, I’ve gone to a theatre seminar. It was really really really fun. I love acting more than I do tech work. Though I would do either. At first the instructor gave me this Shakespeare piece. And it wasn’t drama it was more comedy I liked it. I didn’t perform it though. I performed in a duet and monologue. I was told when I did the monologue it was very authentic and done well. I’m happy with my acting work and I plan to continue that.

The school I go to doesn’t have the best theatre program. In fact we don’t even have a proper stage and seats for it. Its a classic gym with a stage…Ugh. Anyways, It kind of made me want to pursue a school with a better program. But that kind of got trashed, and its no big deal.

Speaking of school, it starts in 2 1/2 weeks. I still have 4 books to read. This is going to be hell. But I need to get it done. I have copious amounts of care for my grades. School should be my priority right now. I think of it as my current job. I would love a real job though. I need some income. And It’ll be so much easier getting one now that I have my drivers permit turning to license in around 3 months. Once I get money, investments will be gas, clothes, car, computer/technology. Those are all necessities right?

Summer…and school on the way

Whether we’d like to face the facts or not, summer is almost over.  That is, in the respect of school aspects. I personally have only 4 weeks until I have to go back to school. I still have summer reading to do. 3 books and 1 play.

My summer has been ok. It hasn’t been bad or good. Actually about 80% of it has been spent in this very chair. Its sad, I know… But let me focus on the positive aspects of my summer. I went to band camp! Which was fun…I guess. We played this amazing piece called Symphony No. 2 by James Barnes Chance. For more info on band camp go to http://postdifferent.com/bandcamp.

Lets see, I’ve gone out probably 5 times besides camp. Once to go to a local concert, three times to go to a local city festival and the other to go to the HP 5 movie.  I plan to go out at least to see Hairspray, Warped Tour and High School Musical live. We’ll see if it happens.

I think thats all I have to say on this subject. tata~

Movie Review: HP 5

I just saw the fifth Harry Potter. Like most movies it had its good and bad points. I have never read the book so I’m not judging how it lined up what happened. Please keep that in mind while you read this. Also, I’ll try and not give away any important details.

While watching the movie I was quite amazed at first. They didn’t rush the beginning like they had in the fourth HP film. It gave more of a setting and didn’t just rush to Hogwarts. Once they did get to Hogwarts though it seemed that the story line wasn’t constructed too well. I’m not saying I couldn’t follow along; I just feel the flow could’ve been better. It does highlight the main points though that I’m sure Rowling was originally trying to get across.

In this film, you have some flash backs and grim scenes that I feel were done quite well. Both the camera angles and the way those scenes were portrayed was very well done. It actually made me become emotional at one point because of the sadness of these scenes. It kind of made me think of the sadness I’ve experienced.

By the middle near end of the movie you have some serious wizardry fighting. Which I was awed by. It was done so well and look so cool. (That may not sound professional…but I’ll live with it.)

I was bothered by the overall plot though. In the previous stories, we seemed to have a beginning and an end to an adventure. But in the fifth HP film, I didn’t get that notion. (I’m not sure if this is the same with the book.) I kind of felt that I was watching a transition episode to a TV show. An episode like that may have its sparks but it may not have an end. Though, I could see how someone else could see a beginning and an end; it’s all about perception. ( And yes, I know the whole series doesn’t end for another 2 movies (1 book).)

On a side note–The screen play writers did very well in this movie to add more humor. I think I laughed more in this movie than any of the others.

With that all said, I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Even though I thought it had some plot problems it was an overall good movie and I do recommend you should go see it.

After you’ve seen Harry Potter 5, give me your response to my review or write me a little one of your own. You can either post it as a comment or email it to will[at]postdifferent[dot]com. I would love to hear your opinion.

Latin Mass

In very recent news we hear that the current pope, Benedict XVI, has announced releasing the restrictions on practicing the old Latin mass.

For those who don’t know the mass, or what protestants refer to as service, was celebrated very differently before a special council. This council, Vatican 2, was held about 40 years ago to help reform and modernize the church. In Vatican 2 they decided to completely redo the mass so it was more friendly to the congregation. They also put restrictions on the Latin mass that had been used for hundreds of years. Of course this angered many Catholic traditionalists, causing yet another split in the church.

We now have the pope releasing the restrictions to ease the tension and split in the church. Parishes can now practice Latin mass without consulting the local bishop, but lets think about this. The old mass hasn’t been taught to the parish priests in about 30-40years. This change just means that the priests, if pressured, would have to learn Latin and a whole other ceremony. I don’t see how this can be accomplished with their already busy schedules.

What does this show to the people who aren’t Catholic? It shows that there are 2 ceremonies for the same purpose. I thought the Catholic church was all about unity. If there are 2 ceremonies…I tend to think other wise.

Another thing that puzzles me is that why did a traditional church want to modernize? For more members? Is that all it is? I guess the church might have been seen as corrupt. But there is always corruption.
