Prom

It has been sometime since I’ve updated, so I think I’ll do that now. Last night I went to Prom. I went with a sophomore girl. The theme was Italy. Being part of the prom committee, I had to find Italian dinner music - no easy task. While there I had a blast. One of the most fun experiences I’ve had so far. I can’t wait until next year.

After the prom, there was an after prom party. That was fun as well. We all hung out until about 6AM in the morning and then headed home. Of course there were some intoxicating substances, but I didn’t partake in them. It was fun to see others wasted though.

Ambitions

My whole junior year I have been bogged down with homework and testing, which puts a cramp on my social life. Throughout all of that, I find myself having ambitions in a variety of subjects. One of my most prominent ambitions is to create the next great website. I’m not the most idealistic person, but I have the skills to make something as such. I’m just having trouble thinking about what will be the next Web 2.0 revolution.

In the computer science field, the one thing I have the most passion in is web development. I won’t be surprised if in 10 years I have a job as a web developer for a big company or my own company. But I won’t know until then. I can only hope that my perseverance and education serves me well in the future.

I’ve recently wanted to start a YouTube channel and get more involved with that community. Unfortunately, I do not have the resources to do so. Or the money for that matter. I’ve been looking for ways to earn money. It seems my best option is self employment. I’m planning on creating an online portfolio, putting myself out there for the world to see. It would allow them to see my computer and web development talents. Whether I use this site or create a new one is still unknown. It will happen nonetheless. (And if you know me, you’d know I don’t usually reach out for opportunities.)

One thing that was recently exciting to participate in was the The Google Highly Open Participation Contest. The contest allowed high school students to get better involved with Open Source projects such as Drupal or GNOME. For every 3 tasks that were completed by the student they received $100. I participated and completed a total of 3 tasks within the time period and I received the money within a month. It not only allowed me to have some pocket change, but I was able to experience Open Source program development. I thank Google for that opportunity.

Other underlying ambitions exist, such as Photography, Journalism and Broadcasting, and Psychology. I hope in the future, I can tap into all of these and maybe tie them all together.

New Semester

As I’m listening to my raving techno, I’m thinking about the approaching new semester. Not will be changed schedule wise. I’ll just be swapping my spanish class and adding performing arts. I wanted to be in performing arts for a lead in the next play or musical rather my school is doing–Grease! Many people think it was a bad pick but all we can do is our best. I don’t think I’ll get a lead but it would be be nice to just be involved.

This past semester has been a dousy. My teachers have piled on the homework. I think about it though, and it only seems much more because my course work is harder. Not to mention it is my Junior year in High School. Now that I got the hang of the work maybe this next semester will be a breeze. I’m still working on my time management. Its so hard to get stuck to a schedule especially when you feel you don’t feel like you’re in control (but thats another future blog).

WOW 3 more semsesters and I’m out of High school :D. I have a experienced some of college due to me living on a college campus. It seems so much free. I use the gym, the library and many other facilities. I’ve even attended a lecture; very very interesting. I would like to experience an actual class. People say the AP classes give you a taste. I don’t believe that a bit. I hope my strengths in my style of learning help me throughout the boring lectures and the grueling projects that lie ahead. (I don’t think it’ll be that bad though.)

Too Much

This school year is becoming to be way to much to handle. I have four weighted classes, in which two of them are AP courses. I want to get in shape. The teachers at my school just pile on the homework. I understand I’m in a school with higher standards…but I feel like if I completely devote my life to fulfilling every single thing, I will have absolutely no social life.

Some of the homework is just worksheets. And others, I have an average of two to three essays a week. And in one class I have four tests within the next two weeks not including the semester final coming up.In my AP English class we have three books that we are reading right now. Not including the extra readings from the two text books we have (and the essays we have to write on them). It’s just simply becoming way too much. Its piling up and everything.

I try to manage my time well, but I end up stressing anyway and are pressured to get things done. I wouldn’t say I have the best time management skills and I wish I had better ones. Its just so much that I just want to throw it down and quit. I know I can’t do that though.

I am baffled by the way people can handle school, a sport and a significant other all at the same time. I wish I had those skills. These next two weeks will be tough. Then I’ll have my finals and let’s hope I live through that so I can enjoy Winter break.
