Too Much

This school year is becoming to be way to much to handle. I have four weighted classes, in which two of them are AP courses. I want to get in shape. The teachers at my school just pile on the homework. I understand I’m in a school with higher standards…but I feel like if I completely devote my life to fulfilling every single thing, I will have absolutely no social life.

Some of the homework is just worksheets. And others, I have an average of two to three essays a week. And in one class I have four tests within the next two weeks not including the semester final coming up.In my AP English class we have three books that we are reading right now. Not including the extra readings from the two text books we have (and the essays we have to write on them). It’s just simply becoming way too much. Its piling up and everything.

I try to manage my time well, but I end up stressing anyway and are pressured to get things done. I wouldn’t say I have the best time management skills and I wish I had better ones. Its just so much that I just want to throw it down and quit. I know I can’t do that though.

I am baffled by the way people can handle school, a sport and a significant other all at the same time. I wish I had those skills. These next two weeks will be tough. Then I’ll have my finals and let’s hope I live through that so I can enjoy Winter break.

You know who didn’t have great time management skills either, and was constantly drowning in projects that had to be completed? Ninja Jim. Yup, it’s true! So we tried two different things, both of which involved creating a schedule.

The first thing we tried was creating an online calendar that we both could manage for him at 30Boxes.net. That didn’t work too well, since he wasn’t always at a computer, and the features of the thing took a little time to get to understand.

The second thing we did was sit down with a piece of paper, draw out seven columns representing the seven days of the week, and create a time calendar. We planned out EVERYTHING—bedtime, wake-up time, school, studio time for his art, and even free time! That way, he could have time for his friends, for his projects, and other things. The schedule needed to be loosely created and strictly followed. The looseness of the schedule allowed for unexpected things, like field trips, to be added in with other things being “caught up” at other times. The strictness brought discipline, and ultimately, better time management.
